திருக்கண்ணபுரம் சவுரிராஜப் பெருமாள் கோயில் 108 திவ்ய தேசங்களில் 19-வது தலம். இது பூலோக வைகுந்தம், முக்தி தரும் தலங்களில் முதன்மை, மேலும் பஞ்ச கிருஷ்ணத் தலங்களில் முக்கியமானது. திருவேங்கடம், திருமாலிருஞ்சோலை, திருவரங்கம் போன்றவை போல், இத்தலம் திருக்கண்ணபுரம் கீழை வீடு என அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.

இங்கே மூலவர் – நீலமேகப் பெருமாள், உற்சவர் – சவுரிராஜப் பெருமாள். இவர் தலையில் **உண்மையான சவுரி (முடி)**யுடன் வீற்றிருக்கிறார். இது ஒரு மன்னனின் சந்தேகத்தை தீர்க்க இறைவன் தானே ரத்தம் வடியச் செய்து காட்டிய அருள் மாயை. அந்த நாளிலிருந்து பெருமாளுக்கு சவுரிமுடி அலங்காரம் வழக்கம்.

7 அடுக்குகளையுடைய ராஜகோபுரம், கிழக்கே நோக்கிய கண்ணபுர நாயகி தாயார், விபீஷணனுக்கான தனிச் சந்நிதி, இராமானுஜருக்கான கோயில் ஆகியவை இத்தலத்தின் சிறப்புகள்.

ஒரு பக்தரின் மானசீக நிவேதனமான பொங்கல், இறைவனால் ஏற்கப்பட்டதைத் தொடர்ந்து, அர்த்தசாம பூஜையில் அந்த முனையதரையன் பொங்கலே நிவேதனமாகிறது.

அமாவாசை நாளில் சவுரிமுடி தரிசனம், மாசி பௌர்ணமி தீர்த்தவாரி, வைகாசி பிரம்மோத்சவம், மாத ஏகாதசியில் திருமஞ்சனம் ஆகியவை சிறப்பாக நடைபெறும்.

இது அஷ்டாக்ஷர மந்திர சித்தி தலம், ஆகவே சொர்க்க வாசல் இல்லாத பூலோக வைகுந்தம் என்றே புகழப்படுகிறது.

Thirukannapuram Sowriraja Perumal Temple, the 19th Divya Desam, is revered as Bhooloka Vaikuntham, one of the most sacred temples granting moksha (liberation). It is also one of the Pancha Krishna Kshetrams, sharing spiritual importance with places like Tiruvengadam (North) and Tirumaliruncholai (South). Saints like Nammalvar, Periyalvar, Andal, Thirumangai Alvar, and Kulasekara Alvar have sung praises of this temple.

The presiding deity is Neelamegha Perumal, and the Utsavar (processional deity) is Sowriraja Perumal, who miraculously bears a real hair tuft (Sowri). This divine trait was revealed when a king tested the deity, leading to a miraculous bleeding from the idol when the tuft was touched, confirming its authenticity. Hence, the deity is uniquely adorned with a hair crown.

The temple features a 7-tier Rajagopuram. The Thayar (Goddess) here is Kannapura Nayaki, seated facing east. A separate shrine for Vibhishana, who received darshan of Rama’s beautiful gait here, is another rare feature. The temple is also home to a shrine for Sri Ramanuja.

An important event is the New Moon (Amavasya) Utsavam, when the deity appears with his divine hair tuft. Daily offerings include Pongal, inspired by a devotee’s mental offering that was divinely accepted.

This sacred site is known for bestowing Ashtakshara Mantra Siddhi, and is celebrated as Bhooloka Vaikuntham, with no need for a separate ‘Swarga Vasal’. Festivals like Maasi Pournami Theerthavari and Vaikasi Brahmotsavam are grandly observed.
