கோவிலடி (திருப்பேர் நகர்) அப்பக்குடத்தான் கோயில்

தஞ்சாவூர் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள கோவிலடி (திருப்பேர் நகர்) அப்பக்குடத்தான் கோயில், திருமாலின் 108 திவ்ய தேசங்களில் ஆறாவது தலம் ஆகும். இது பஞ்சரங்கத் தலங்களில் ஒன்றும். 108 திருப்பதிகளுள் ஒரே இடத்தில், தினமும் இரவில் பெருமாளுக்கு அப்பம் செய்து படைக்கப்படுகிறது என்பது இக்கோயிலின் தனித்துவம்.

பெரியாழ்வார், நம்மாழ்வார், திருமங்கையாழ்வார், திருமழிசையாழ்வார் இத்தலத்தை மங்களாசாசனம் செய்துள்ளனர். கோயிலுக்கு அருகே உருவான “பலச வனம்” என்ற பசுமை காட்டில் மன்னன் உபமன்யு அன்னதானம் செய்து தனது சாபத்தைக் குணப்படுத்தினான். அந்த அன்னதானம் தொடர்ந்து நீண்ட நாட்கள் நடைபெற்றது.

திருமால், முதியவர் வேடத்தில் மன்னனை சோதித்து, அப்பம் கோரிய பின்னர் அதனை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு மன்னனின் சாபத்தை அகற்றினார். இதனால் பெருமாளுக்கு ‘அப்பக்குடத்தான்’ என்ற பெயர் வழங்கப்பட்டது. பெருமாள் வலது கை கையில் அப்பக் குடம் ஏந்திய நிலையில் இங்கு அருள் தருகிறார்.

இந்த கோயிலில் மகா நவராத்திரி, வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசி, பங்குனி உற்சவம், தீர்த்தவாரி போன்ற பண்டிகைகள் சிறப்பாக நடக்கின்றன. சாப விமோசனம், கர்வ தடை நீக்கம், திருமண வரம் பெறுபவர்கள் இத்தலத்தை விசேஷமாக வழிபடுகிறார்கள்.

Koviladi (Thirupeer Nagar) Appakkudathan Temple

Located in Thanjavur district, the Koviladi (Thirupeer Nagar) Appakkudathan Temple is the 6th Divya Desam among the 108 sacred Vishnu temples. It is one of the Pancha Ranga Temples and uniquely offers freshly made appam (rice pancakes) daily to Lord Vishnu during the night rituals.

Great Azhwars like Periyalwar, Nammalwar, Thirumangai Azhwar, and Thirumalisai Azhwar have glorified this temple. According to legend, King Upamanyu lost his powers due to a curse by Sage Durvasa. To remove his curse, the sage advised the king to offer food to one lakh people at this “Palasa forest” site. The king obeyed and continuously performed annadhanam (food donation).

One day, Lord Vishnu disguised as an old man requested food and later accepted an appam from the king, lifting his curse. Since then, the deity is known as ‘Appakkudathan’—the Lord holding an appam pot in His right hand.

Major festivals like Navaratri, Vaikunta Ekadasi, and Panguni Uthiram are celebrated here with grandeur. Devotees visit seeking relief from curses, fertility blessings, and marriage boons. This temple is a revered spiritual destination in Tamil Nadu’s Vaishnavite tradition.
