காமதேனு திருமாலை வேண்டி தவம் செய்ததால், “ஆ-தன்-ஊர்” என்று பெயர்பெற்றது ஆதனூர். இங்கே திருமகள், ப்ருகு முனிவரின் மகளாக பிறந்து, ஆண்டளக்கும் ஐயனுடன் திருமணம் புரிந்து இந்திரனுக்கு சாபவிமோசனம் செய்தார்.

திருமங்கையாழ்வார், பெருமாளை “ஆதனூர் ஆண்டளக்கும் ஐயன்” எனப் பாடல்களில் புகழ்ந்துள்ளார். பிரணவ விமானத்தின்கீழ், ஸ்ரீதேவி, பூதேவி, பிரம்மாவுடன் பள்ளிகொண்ட பெருமாள் காட்சியளிக்கிறார்.

• வைகாசி பிரம்மோற்சவம், வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசி வைபவமாக நடத்தப்படுகிறது.

• “மோட்சத் தூண்கள்” எனப்படும் இரண்டு தூண்கள், நம்மை பரமபதத்திற்கு அழைக்கும் என்றும் நம்பப்படுகிறது.

• திருமங்கையாழ்வாருக்கு ஏடு, எழுத்தாணியால் உபதேசித்த பெருமாள் இங்கு ஆண்டளக்கும் ஐயனாக காட்சியளிக்கிறார்.

Adhanur, also known as “Aa-than-oor,” is where Kamadhenu, the divine cow, performed penance for Vishnu. Lord Vishnu appeared here and married Mahalakshmi, born as Bhrigu Maharishi’s daughter. Hence, the name “Andalakkum Aiyan”, the Lord who governs and grants according to karmic deeds.

Here, Thirumangai Azhwar glorified the Lord indirectly in his Periya Thirumozhi. The temple features the Pranava Vimanam, and Lord Vishnu rests with Sridevi, Bhudevi, and Brahma on his navel.
