13-Oppiliappan Temple Kumbakonam

108 திவ்ய தேசங்களில், தஞ்சாவூர் மாவட்டம் கும்பகோணத்துக்கு அருகே அமைந்துள்ள உப்பிலியப்பன் கோயில் (திருவிண்ணகரம்), பூமாதேவி சமேத ஒப்பிலியப்பன் பெருமாளை பிரதான தெய்வமாகக் கொண்டுள்ளது. இத்தலம் தென் திருப்பதி என்ற சிறப்புப் பெற்ற இடமாக விளங்குகிறது.

இங்கு மட்டுமே உப்பில்லாத நைவேத்யம் பெருமாளுக்கு சமர்ப்பிக்கப்படுகிறது. இந்த கோயிலுக்கு பேயாழ்வார், நம்மாழ்வார் மற்றும் திருமங்கையாழ்வார் மங்களாசாசனம் செய்துள்ளனர். தாயார் பூமாதேவி திருத்துழாய் என ரிஷி மகளாக அவதரித்து திருமால் திருவோண நக்ஷத்திரத்தில் மணந்தார். இதுவே ஒவ்வொரு மாதமும் திருவோண நாளில் சிறப்பு பூஜைகள் நடைபெறும் காரணமாகும்.

மூலவர் – ஒப்பிலியப்பன்; உற்சவர் – பொன்னப்பன்; தாயார் – பூமாதேவி. தீர்த்தம் – அஹோத்ர புஷ்கரிணி. பூஜை – வைகானஸ ஆகமம்; விமானம் – சுத்தானந்த விமானம்.

மார்க்கண்டேய மகரிஷி வழிபட்ட இத்தலம் ஆயுள் விருத்திக்கு சிறந்ததாக கருதப்படுகிறது. கோயில் வாசல் கிழக்கே நோக்கி, ஐந்து நிலை ராஜகோபுரத்துடன் அமைந்துள்ளது. பெருமாள் ஐந்து ரூபங்களில் காட்சி தருகிறார்: திருவிண்ணகரப்பன், பொன்னப்பன், முத்தப்பன், மணியப்பன், என்னப்பன்.

புரட்டாசி, ஐப்பசி மற்றும் பங்குனி மாதங்களில் பிரம்மோற்சவ விழாக்கள், ஸ்ரீராம நவமி, திருக்கல்யாணம், தேரோட்டம் ஆகியவை கோலாகலமாக நடைபெறுகிறது. பக்தர்கள் ஆயிரக்கணக்கில் திருவிழாக்களில் கலந்துகொள்கின்றனர்.

Oppiliappan Temple 

Among the 108 Divya Desams, Oppiliappan Temple near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district is the 13th sacred shrine, glorified by Azhwars like Peyazhwar, Nammazhwar, and Thirumangai Azhwar. The temple is renowned as “South Tirupati.”

Here, the Lord is offered only salt-free prasadam, making it unique among all Divya Desams. The presiding deity, Oppiliappan (Thiruvinnagarappan), is accompanied by Bhoomadevi. This temple is her avatara sthalam, where she incarnated as Thiruthuzhai and married Lord Vishnu on the auspicious day of Thiruvonam.

Main Deity – Oppiliappan; Utsavar – Ponnappan; Thayar – Bhoomadevi. Sacred Tank – Ahodhra Pushkarini. Agama – Vaikanasa. Vimanam – Suddhananda Vimanam.

Legend says Markandeya Maharishi worshipped here and wished Mahalakshmi to be born as his daughter. The Lord, disguised as an old man, asked for her hand in marriage. As she could not cook with salt, the Lord accepted saltless food, thus earning the name “Oppiliappan” (One without comparison and who eats without salt).

The temple has a five-tier eastern rajagopuram. The Lord manifests in five forms – Thiruvinnagarappan, Ponnappan, Muthappan, Maniyappan, and Ennappan. The Thayar stands to His right, a rare occurrence in Vishnu temples.

Major festivals include Purattasi, Aippasi, Panguni Brahmotsavams, Sri Rama Navami, and the celestial wedding. Devotees in thousands gather during these festivals seeking blessings for longevity and salvation.
