16-Nandipura Vinnagaram-Nadhan Koil

நாதன்கோவில் ஜெகநாதப் பெருமாள் கோயில் (நந்திபுர விண்ணகரம்) 

தஞ்சாவூர் மாவட்டம் நாதன்கோவிலில் அமைந்துள்ள ஜெகநாதப் பெருமாள் கோயில், திருமங்கையாழ்வாரால் மங்களாசாசனம் பெற்ற 108 திவ்ய தேசங்களில் 16-வது தலமாகும். நந்திபுர விண்ணகரம் எனப் பெயர்பெற்ற இக்கோயில் சோழர்களால் கட்டப்பட்டது. மூலஸ்தானத்தில் நந்தி தேவர் மற்றும் நான்முக பிரம்மா, திருமாலை வணங்கும் அரிய காட்சியுடன் காணப்படுகின்றனர்.

புராணக் கதைப்படி, திருமகள், திருமாலின் மார்பில் இருப்பதற்காக இத்தலத்தில் தவம் புரிந்தாள். ஐப்பசி மாதம் வெள்ளிக்கிழமை அன்று திருமால் அவளின் விருப்பத்தை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டதால், இத்தலத்தில் வெள்ளிக்கிழமைகளில் செய்யப்படும் அபிஷேகம், அர்ச்சனை சிறப்புப் பெறுகிறது.

மற்றொரு கதையில், வைகுண்டம் சென்று தரிசிக்க முயன்ற நந்திதேவர், காவலர்களால் சபிக்கப்பட்டார். ஈசனின் ஆலோசனைப்படி இத்தலத்தில் தவம் இருந்ததால், சாபம் விலகி விட்டது. இதனால் இத்தலம் நந்திபுர விண்ணகரம் என அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.

சந்திர தோஷம், திருமணத் தடை, நரம்பு நோய்கள் நீங்க இக்கோயிலில் வழிபாடு செய்தால் சிறந்த பலன் தரும். இது தட்சிண ஜெகந்நாதம் எனவும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசி திருவிழா மிக விமரிசையாக நடைபெறுகிறது.

Jagannatha Perumal Temple, Nadhan Koil (Nandipura Vinnagaram) 

Located in Nadhan Koil near Kumbakonam, Thanjavur district, the Jagannatha Perumal Temple is the 16th among the 108 Divya Desams glorified by Thirumangai Azhwar. Known as Nandipura Vinnagaram, this sacred Vishnu temple was built by the Chola kings. In the sanctum, Nandi and Brahma are seen worshipping Lord Vishnu—a rare sight.

The presiding deity is Jagannatha Perumal (Vinnagar Perumal, Nathanathan) and the consort is Shenbagavalli Thayar. The temple tree is Shenbaga, and the sacred tank is Nandi Pushkarini. The vimana over the sanctum is known as Mandara Vimanam.

Legend says Goddess Lakshmi, desiring to dwell in Lord Vishnu’s chest instead of at His feet, performed penance here in the Shenbaga forest. On a Friday during the waxing moon of Aippasi, Vishnu accepted her wish. Hence, Fridays are considered highly auspicious here, especially for women seeking blessings for marriage and family life.

Another legend speaks of Nandi Deva, who was cursed by Vishnu’s guards when he tried to enter Vaikunta. Lord Shiva directed him to do penance here, which led to the curse being lifted. Pleased, Lord Vishnu declared the place would be named Nandipura Vinnagaram.

Devotees believe worshiping here removes Chandra Dosha (lunar afflictions), delays in marriage, health issues, and brings success in legal matters. The temple is also referred to as Dakshina Jagannatham (Southern Jagannath Temple). The grand Vaikunta Ekadasi festival is celebrated here with great devotion.
