சிதம்பரம் திருச்சித்ரகூடம் கோவிந்தராஜ பெருமாள் திருக்கோயில், 108 திவ்ய தேசங்களில் 40வது தலம் ஆகும். இந்த திவ்யதேசம், பிரபலமான சிதம்பரம் நடராஜர் கோயிலுக்குள் அமைந்துள்ள ஒரே வைணவத் தலம்.

சிவபெருமானும் பார்வதி தேவியும் நடனப் போட்டியில் கலந்து கொண்டபோது, திருமால் தீர்ப்பளித்தார். அந்த நியாயத்தின் அடையாளமாக, அவருக்கே இத்தலத்தில் தனிக் கோயில் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது.

நட்ட இடத்தில் நின்று பார்த்தால், நடராஜர், கோவிந்தராஜர் மற்றும் பிரம்மதேவர் ஒரே வரிசையில் தரிசனம் தருவது இத்தலத்தின் சிறப்பாகும்.

தாயார் புண்டரீகவல்லிக்கு தனிச்சந்நிதி உள்ளது. காவேரி நதி தேவதேவியான லோபாமுத்திரைக்கு இங்கு மோட்சம் கிடைத்தது.

பதஞ்சலி முனிவர் தனிச்சந்நிதியில் நாக வடிவில் எழுந்தருளியுள்ளார்.

Chidambaram Thiruchitrakoodam Govindaraja Perumal Temple, revered as the 40th Divya Desam, is uniquely situated inside the famous Chidambaram Nataraja Temple. This sacred temple is glorified by Kulasekara Azhwar and Thirumangai Azhwar through their hymns.

The temple is linked to the celestial dance of Lord Shiva and Parvati, where Lord Vishnu judged the divine contest in the Chit Sabha (Chitrakoodam). Pleased with Lord Vishnu’s impartial verdict, Lord Shiva blessed him with a shrine inside his domain.

A unique feature here is the alignment of shrines, where from a specific spot, Nataraja, Govindaraja Perumal, and Brahma can all be seen in a straight line.

Pundarika Valli Thayar has a separate shrine. Devotees believe that worship here brings Moksha (salvation), as the Kaveri river goddess attained it here.

Patanchali Maharishi, an incarnation of Adiseshan, has a special shrine in his serpent form.
