44-Ashtabujam Kanchipuram

காஞ்சிபுரம் அஷ்டபுயக்கரம் (அஷ்டபுஜம்) ஆதிகேசவப் பெருமாள் கோயில் 108 திவ்ய தேசங்களில் 44-வது திவ்ய தேசம் ஆகும். இந்தத் தலத்தின் சிறப்பு – பெருமாள் எட்டு திருக்கரங்களுடன் (அஷ்டபுயகரம்) அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். அந்த கரங்களில் சக்கரம், வாள், மலர், அம்பு, சங்கு, வில், கேடயம், மழு போன்ற அஷ்ட ஆயுதங்களை ஏந்தி காட்சி அளிக்கிறார்.

இங்கு அலர்மேல்மங்கை தாயார் தனி சன்னதியில் வீற்றிருக்க, தாயாரைப் பற்றியும் மங்களாசாசனம் செய்யப்பட்டது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. சக்ராக்ருதி விமானத்தின் கீழ், பெருமாள் மேற்கு நோக்கி நின்ற கோலத்தில் காட்சி தருகிறார். திருமங்கையாழ்வார், பொய்கையாழ்வார், ஸ்வாமி தேசிகன், மணவாள மாமுனிகள் இத்தலத்தை பாடியுள்ளனர்.

இது கஜேந்திர மோக்ஷம் நிகழ்ந்த புனித ஸ்தலம். குளத்தில் முதலையால் பிடிக்கபட்ட யானை (முனிவரின் பிறவி) “ஆதிமூலமே” என்று அழைத்த போது, பெருமாள் சக்ராயுதத்தால் அதைப் வீழ்த்தி ரட்சித்தார்.

வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசி, ஸ்ரீராம நவமி, நவராத்திரி போன்ற திருவிழாக்கள் சிறப்பாக நடைபெறுகின்றன. தாயார் சன்னதியில் தொட்டில் கட்டினால் பிள்ளைப் பேரும் கிடைக்கும் என நம்பப்படுகிறது.

Ashtabhujakaram Temple (also known as Ashtabujam) in Kanchipuram is the 44th Divya Desam, glorified in the Divya Prabandham hymns of Alwars. This sacred temple is unique among the 108 Divya Desams, as Lord Adikesava Perumal appears with eight divine arms (Ashtabhuja), each holding celestial weapons – Chakra, Sword, Flower, Arrow, Shankh, Bow, Shield, and Gada.

Goddess Alamelumangai Thayar resides here in a separate sanctum, and this is one of the rare temples where the Thayar has been individually praised in Alwar hymns. The main sanctum (garbhagriha) faces west, beneath the Chakrākṛti Vimanam. Saints like Thirumangai Alwar, Poigai Alwar, Swami Desikan, and Manavala Mamunigal have all sung praises of this holy site.

This Divya Desam is also closely linked to the legend of Gajendra Moksha, where Lord Vishnu saved the elephant (a sage reborn) from a crocodile, earning this place the name Gajendra Varadan Sthalam. The holy tank is known as Gajendra Pushkarini.
