திருவேளுக்கை அழகிய சிங்கர் கோயில்
திருவேளுக்கை அழகிய சிங்கர் கோயில், 108 திவ்ய தேசங்களில் 46-வது தலமாக விளங்குகிறது. இங்கு மூலவர் முகுந்த நாயகன் நரசிம்ம அவதாரத்தில் யோக நரசிம்மர் எனத் திகழ்கிறார். பேயாழ்வார் மங்களாசாசனம் செய்துள்ள இத்தலம், ஆன்மிக முக்கியத்துவம் மிகுந்தது.
இங்கு கருடாழ்வார் சந்நிதி, நரசிம்மரின் உக்கிர சீலை தாங்க முடியாமல் சிறிது தலை சாய்ந்து நின்றிருப்பது ஒரு தெய்வீக அதிசயம்.

பிரம்மதேவரின் யாகத்தை காப்பாற்ற திருமால், ஹஸ்திசைலம் என்ற குகையிலிருந்து நரசிம்மராக தோன்றி, அரக்கர்களை விரட்டினார். பின்னர் இத்தலத்தில் யோக அவஸ்தையில் அமர்ந்து, ‘காமாஷிகா நரசிம்மர்’ எனத் தரிசனம் தருகிறார்.
இத்தலம் “வேள்” என்றால் விருப்பம் என்பதைக் குறிக்கிறது. திருநாமம் “வேளுக்கை” ஆக மாற்றமடைந்தது. ஸ்வாமி வேதாந்த தேசிகர் இத்தலப்பெருமாளை ‘காமாஷிகாஷ்டகம்’ ஸ்லோகத்தில் போற்றியுள்ளார். இதை தினமும் பாராயணம் செய்தால் அருள் கிட்டும்.

ThiruVelukkai Azhagiya Singar Temple is the 46th Divya Desam among the sacred 108 Divya Desams. Here, the presiding deity Mukunda Nayaka Perumal appears as Yoga Narasimha, a rare and peaceful form. The temple is glorified in the Divya Prabandham by Pey Alvar.
A unique feature is the posture of Garuda, who stands slightly bowed before Narasimha, overwhelmed by the ferocity of the Lord—a rare spiritual depiction.

To protect Brahma’s yagna, Lord Vishnu emerged from a cave in Hastisailam in the fierce Narasimha form. After chasing away the demons, He chose to remain here as Yoga Narasimhar, earning the name “Kamashika Narasimhar.”
The word “Vel” means desire; as the Lord chose this place by His will, the place came to be known as Velukkai.
Swami Vedanta Desikan composed the revered “KamashikAshtakam” hymn in praise of this deity. Daily recitation of this sloka is believed to bring divine blessings.
