திரு ஊரகம் உலகளந்த பெருமாள் கோயில்

காஞ்சிபுரத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள திரு ஊரகம் உலகளந்த பெருமாள் கோயில், 108 திவ்யதேசங்களில் 50-வது தலமாக சிறப்பு பெற்றது. இங்கு மூலவர் உலகளந்த பெருமாள் (திரிவிக்கிரமன்) மேற்கு நோக்கி, 35 அடி உயரம், 24 அடி அகலம் கொண்ட மகா ரூபத்தில் காட்சி தருகிறார்.

இங்கு, ஒரே கோயிலில் நான்கு திவ்யதேசங்களைக் காணும் அபூர்வ வாய்ப்பு பக்தர்களுக்கு உண்டு – நீரகம், காரகம், கார்வானம், ஊரகம். மேலும், பெருமாளின் அருகில் ஆதிசேஷன் நாக ரூபத்தில் தரிசனமளிக்கிறார்.

புராணக் கதையில், மகாபலியின் அவமதத்தை அடக்க, திருமால் வாமன அவதாரத்தை எடுத்து, திரிவிக்கிரம ரூபத்தில் மூன்று உலகங்களையும் அளந்து அவனை பாதாளத்துக்கு அனுப்பினார். மகாபலியின் தவத்துக்குப் பதிலாக, இத்தலத்தில் பெருமாள் உலகளந்த திருக்கோலத்தில் மீண்டும் தோன்றினார்.

Thiru Ooragam – Ulagalantha Perumal Temple

Located in Kanchipuram, the Thiru Ooragam Ulagalantha Perumal Temple is the 50th Divya Desam among the 108 sacred Vaishnavite shrines. Here, Lord Trivikrama (Ulagalantha Perumal) appears in majestic form – 35 feet tall and 24 feet wide, raising one leg toward the sky, facing west.

This is the only temple where four Divya Desams – Neeragam, Karagam, Karvanam, Ooragam – are found within the same complex, making it spiritually rare. Near the sanctum, Adisesha is seen in serpent form, symbolizing deep mythological relevance.

As per legend, to subdue King Mahabali’s ego, Vishnu incarnated as Vamana, asked for land, and then took Trivikrama form, covering heaven and earth with two steps. With no space for the third, Mahabali offered his own head, and was pushed to the netherworld (Pathala).

Pleased with Mahabali’s penance, the Lord reappeared in this form here. Mahabali, wanting eternal vision of the Lord, appears as a five-headed serpent, representing Adisesha.
