108 வைணவ திவ்ய தேசங்களில் முக்கியமானது, காஞ்சிபுரம் பெரிய காஞ்சியில் அமைந்துள்ள திருக்காரகம் கருணாகரப் பெருமாள் கோயில், 52-வது திவ்ய தேசமாக போற்றப்படுகிறது. இது உலகளந்த பெருமாள் கோயிலின் பிரகாரத்திற்குள் உள்ள சிறிய, ஆனால் முக்கியமான தலம்.

இத்தலத்தில் மூலவர் கருணாகரப் பெருமாள் தெற்கே நோக்கி நின்ற திருக்கோலத்தில் அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். தாயார் பத்மாமணி நாச்சியார், தீர்த்தம் அக்ராய தீர்த்தம் ஆகும். இத்தலத்தில் திருமங்கையாழ்வார் மங்களாசாசனம் செய்துள்ளார்.

அக்ராயன் என்ற மன்னன், தீராத நோயால் தவித்தபோது, இத்தலத்தில் நீராடி பெருமாளை வணங்க, பெருமாள் நோயை நீக்கினார். கருணையின் சின்னமாக கருதப்படும் பெருமாள், ஞானம் வழங்கிய தலம் என்றும் கருதப்படுகிறது.

‘கார்’ என்றால் கருமேகம், அதுபோல் பெருமாள் தன் அருளை மழைப் போல பக்தர்களின் மேல் பொழிவதால் இத்தலத்திற்கு “கரகம்” என்ற பெயர் வந்ததாக நம்பப்படுகிறது. மேகநிகேதன முனிவருக்கு தரிசனம் தந்த பெருமாள், நற்குணங்களை வளர்த்திட அருள்புரிகிறார்.

தீராத நோய்கள், மன உளைச்சல், நரம்புத் தளர்ச்சி, தோல் நோய் ஆகியவற்றில் இருந்து விடுதலை பெற இங்கு பெருமாளை வணங்குவது சிறப்பு. வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசியில் சிறப்பு திருவிழா நடைபெறுகிறது.

இந்த திருக்கோயில், பக்தி, ஞானம், கருணை ஆகிய அனைத்தையும் தரும் அருள்தலமாக விளங்குகிறது.

Thirukkaragam Karunagara Perumal Temple in Kanchipuram, celebrated as the 52nd Divya Desam, is a sacred Vaishnava temple located within the prakaram of Ulagalanda Perumal Temple at Periya Kanchipuram.

The presiding deity, Karunagara Perumal, appears in a standing posture facing south, offering his blessings to devotees. Goddess Padmavathi Nachiyar graces the sanctum, and the sacred Agraaya Theertham is associated with miraculous healing powers.

According to legend, a king named Agraayan was cured of a chronic disease after taking a holy dip in the temple tank and worshipping Karunagara Perumal. The Lord, pleased with the king’s devotion, granted him relief. The temple is also linked to Karha Rishi, who received divine wisdom (Jnana) from the Lord here.

The name “Thirukkaragam” is believed to originate from “Karu (dark clouds),” symbolizing how the Lord showers divine grace like rainclouds nourishing the earth. This symbolism has earned the Lord the reputation of being the embodiment of mercy.

Thirumangai Azhwar has sung Mangalaasaasanam in praise of this Divya Desam. It is said that worshipping here grants spiritual clarity, intellectual growth, and relief from incurable diseases, nerve disorders, depression, and skin ailments.
