தூத்துக்குடி மாவட்டத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள 108 திவ்யதேசங்களில் 98-வது திவ்யதேசமாக அழைக்கப்படும் திருகுருகூர் (ஆழ்வார் திருநகரி) ஆதிநாத பெருமாள் கோயில் முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்தது. இது நவதிருப்பதிகளில் ஐந்தாவது திருப்பதி ஆகும். நம்மாழ்வார் இக்கோயிலின் குருவாகவும், அவதாரத் தலமாகவும் பெயர் பெற்றவர்.

புராணக் கதைகள்:
திருகுருகூர் என்ற பெயர் “குருகு” என்ற சங்குவைச் சார்ந்ததாகும், இது பெருமாளை வணங்கி மோட்சம் பெறும் தலம். நவகிரகத்தில் வியாழனுக்குரிய தலமாகவும் மதுரகவியாழ்வார் இங்கு நம்மாழ்வாரை மங்களாசாசனம் செய்தார். சடகோபர் அவதாரமாக வந்து, நம்மாழ்வாரை குருவாகக் கொண்டு திவ்யபிரபந்தங்களை தமிழில் மொழிபெயர்த்து பக்தர்களுக்கு அருள்பாலித்தார்.

The Thirukkurugur (Azhwar Thirunagari) Adhinatha Perumal Temple, located in Thoothukudi district, is revered as the 98th Divya Desam and the 5th temple among the Nava Tirupati group. This temple holds great spiritual importance as the guru shrine of Nammalwar and is considered his avatar birthplace.

The incarnation of Sathagopar (Nammalwar) translated the Vedas into Tamil and spread divine knowledge here.
