Nammalvar is one of the most prominent among the twelve Alvars and was born in Thirukkurugur (Azhwar Thirunagari) in Tamil Nadu. He is revered as the chief contributor to the Naalayira Divya Prabandham, composing over 1,296 hymns including Thiruvaaymozhi, Thiruviruttam, Thiruvasiriyam, and Periya Thiruvandhadhi. His verses express deep Bhakti and spiritual union with Lord Vishnu. Nammalvar is often referred to as the “Tamil Veda” poet-saint. His shrine in Azhwar Thirunagari is a key pilgrimage site.
