Sri Vaikundam Vaikunda Nadhar Temple in Thoothukudi district is celebrated as the 91st Divya Desam among the 108 Vaishnavite Divya Desams. It is one of the Navathirupathi temples and is uniquely revered as the Solar Deity’s (Surya) sacred shrine within the Navagraha temples. Located on the Tirunelveli – Tiruchendur highway, about 30 km from Tirunelveli, this temple has been glorified by saints like Nammalwar and Manavala Mamunigal.

Historical significance:
The legend tells how Brahma lost the Vedas to the demon king Somukan, resulting in the halt of creation. To retrieve the Vedas, Brahma performed penance on the banks of the Thamirabarani river. Lord Vishnu appeared here as Vaikunda Nadhar, defeated the demon, and returned the Vedas to Brahma.
