தூத்துக்குடி மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள 108 வைணவ திவ்ய தேசங்களில் 97-வது திவ்ய தேசமாக தென்திருப்பேரை மகர நெடுங் குழைக்காதர் கோயில் மிகவும் முக்கியமானது. இந்த கோயில் நவதிருப்பதிகளில் சுக்கிரன் பக்தர்களுக்கான புனித தலமாக அறியப்படுகிறது.

தல வரலாறு:
ஸ்ரீதேவி திருமாலைப் பற்றி கவலைப்பட்ட போது, துர்வாச முனிவர் வழிகாட்டியபடி பூமாதேவி இந்தத் தலத்தில் “ஓம் நமோ நாராயணாய” மந்திரம் உச்சரித்து சாபத்தை நீக்கினார். பங்குனி பௌர்ணமி நாளில் பூமாதேவி தாமிரபரணி கரையில் மகர வடிவிலான குண்டலங்களை கண்டுபிடித்து பெருமாளிடம் அணியச் சொன்னார். இதனால் பெருமாளுக்கு மகரநெடுங் குழைக்காதர் என்ற பெயர் வந்தது.

Temple Legend:
Sri Devi once felt sorrow over Lord Vishnu’s affection towards Bhudevi. Following sage Durvasa’s advice, Bhudevi chanted “Om Namo Narayanaya” at this temple’s sacred tank on the day of Panguni Pournami, found two Makara (fish-shaped) earrings, and gave them to Lord Vishnu. Since then, the Lord is worshipped as Makar Nedung Kuzhaikkathar.
