திருக்கடல்மல்லை தலசயனப் பெருமாள் கோயில்

108 வைணவ திவ்ய தேசங்களில், செங்கல்பட்டு மாவட்டம் மாமல்லபுரத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள தலசயனப் பெருமாள் கோயில் 63வது திவ்யதேசமாக சிறப்பு பெற்றுள்ளது. இது பூதத்தாழ்வாரின் அவதார தலம். மாமல்லபுரம், பல்லவர் காலத்தில் புகழ்பெற்ற கடற்கரை நகரமாகவும் சிற்பக்கலை மையமாகவும் இருந்தது.

திருமங்கையாழ்வார் மற்றும் பூதத்தாழ்வார் இத்தலத்தை மங்களாசாசனம் செய்துள்ளனர்.

பிரம்மாண்ட புராணம் கூறும் தல வரலாற்றின்படி, பசியால் வாடிய மக்களுக்கு அன்னதானம் வழங்கிய மல்லேஸ்வர மன்னன், சாபத்தால் முதலையாக பிறந்து, புண்டரீக மகரிஷியின் தவம் மூலம் மீட்பு பெற்றார். மகரிஷி, கடல்நீர் வற்றி வழியருள என திருமாலை வேண்டியபோது, வராகமூர்த்தி சயன நிலையில் காட்சி தந்ததாலே, இத்தல பெருமாளுக்கு “தலசயனப் பெருமாள்“ என்ற திருநாமம் ஏற்பட்டது.

ஏழு கோயில் நகரம் என அழைக்கப்பட்ட இத்தலம் தற்போது மிகம்சிறப்பான கருங்கல் தூண்கள் கொண்ட ஆலயமாக மாறியுள்ளது. திருப்பாற்கடல் வைகுண்டநாதனை தரிசித்த பலன் தரும் என ஐதீகம்.

வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசி, சித்திரை பிரம்மோற்சவம், மாசி மகம் தெப்ப உற்சவம் ஆகியவை இங்குள்ள முக்கிய திருவிழாக்களாகும்.

Thirukadalmallai Thalasayana Perumal Temple, Mamallapuram – 63rd Divya Desam

Among the 108 Divya Desams, the Thalasayana Perumal Temple in Mamallapuram, Chengalpattu district, is revered as the 63rd sacred Vaishnava shrine. This holy site is also the birthplace of Bhoothath Alvar, one of the 12 Alvars. Ancient shoreline city Mamallapuram was once a hub of Pallava-era sculpture and art.

Thirumangai Alvar and Bhoothath Alvar have sung praises of this Divya Desam.

As per the Brahmanda Purana, King Malleswaran, cursed to be reborn as a crocodile due to stopping food donations, finds redemption at this shrine. Sage Pundarika, in deep penance, pleads for divine grace. Lord Vishnu, in the form of a mysterious old man, accepts the sage’s lotus flowers and later reveals Himself in a reclining posture on Adisesha, earning the name “Thalasayana Perumal”.

This site was once known as the “City of Seven Temples”, with only this shrine surviving after sea erosion. The temple, later rebuilt by Vijayanagara ruler Parangusa, features stunning black stone pillars and sculptures.

Worshipping here is believed to grant the same merit as seeing Vaikunthanathan in Thirupparkadal.

Major festivals include Vaikunta Ekadasi, Chithirai Brahmotsavam, Maasi Magam float festival, and ancestral rites on Mahalaya Amavasai. Devotees visit seeking relief from marriage delays and doshas.
