108 வைணவ திவ்ய தேசங்களில், தூத்துக்குடி மாவட்டம் திருக்கோளூர் வைத்தமாநிதி பெருமாள் கோயில் 96வது திவ்ய தேசமாகப் போற்றப்படுகிறது. இது ஆழ்வார்திருநகரியில் இருந்து 2 கி.மீ தொலைவில் அமைந்துள்ளது மற்றும் பிரம்மாண்ட புராணத்தில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இத்தலத்தை நம்மாழ்வார், மணவாள மாமுனிகள் மங்களாசாசனம் செய்துள்ளனர். இங்கு மூலவர்: வைத்தமாநிதி பெருமாள், உற்சவர்: நிஷோபவித்தன், தாயார்: குமுதவல்லி நாயகி, கோளூர் வல்லி நாயகி ஆகியோர். தீர்த்தங்கள்: தாமிரபரணி, குபேர தீர்த்தம், விமானம்: ஸ்ரீகர விமானம் ஆகும்.

தல வரலாறு முக்கியமாக குபேரனின் செல்வம் இத்தலத்தில் திரும்பப் பெறப்பட்டதை குறிக்கும். பார்வதி தேவி சாபத்தால் இழந்த செல்வத்தை, வைத்தமாநிதி பெருமாள் நவநிதிகளை கையில் பாதுகாத்து, குபேரன் மீட்டார். இதனால் இத்தலம் செவ்வாய் கிரகத்திற்கு (மாஸ் தோஷம்) உரியதாகும்.

கோயில் அமைப்பு சிறப்பாக உள்ளது; பெருமாள் மரக்காலைத் தலையில் சயனித்திருப்பார், கையில் நவநிதிகள் தெளிவாகக் காணப்படுகின்றன.

மதுரகவியாழ்வார் இத்தலத்தில் பிறந்தவர். வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசி விழா இங்கு சிறப்பாக கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. பக்தர்கள் செவ்வாய் தோஷத்திற்கு இங்குப் பரிகாரம் செய்து வழிபடுகிறார்கள்.

Vaithamanidhi Perumal Temple at Thirukolur, Thoothukudi district is celebrated as the 96th Divya Desam among the 108 Vaishnavite Divya Desams. Located just 2 km from Azhwartirunagari, this temple is prominently mentioned in the grand Brahmanda Purana.

The temple has been sanctified by revered saints like Nammalvar and Manavala Mamunigal. The presiding deity, Vaithamanidhi Perumal, is worshipped alongside his consorts Kumudavalli Nayagi and Kolur Valli Nayagi. The temple’s sacred waters include the Tamirabarani and Kubera Theertham, and the majestic Srikara Vimanam adorns the sanctum.

Legend highlights the story of Kubera, the lord of wealth, who lost his riches due to a curse by Goddess Parvati but regained them after worshipping Vaithamanidhi Perumal here. The deity is believed to protect the Navanidhis (nine treasures) under his right shoulder, symbolizing wealth and prosperity. Devotees believe that worshipping here cures Manglik dosha and other planetary afflictions, as this temple is dedicated to Mars (Sevvai) among the Navagrahas.

The temple architecture is unique with Vaithamanidhi Perumal resting on a wooden plank with one hand showing the Navanidhi treasures. It also honors Madurakavi Alvar, a great disciple of Nammalvar, who lived nearby.

The Vaikunta Ekadashi festival is celebrated grandly, attracting numerous devotees for blessings and rituals, including special offerings for Mars dosha.
