திருப்புட்குழி விஜயராகவப் பெருமாள் கோயில், 108 திவ்ய தேசங்களில் 57-வது சிறப்புமிக்க புண்ணிய ஸ்தலமாகும். இத்தலம் ஜடாயுவுக்கு ஈமக்கிரியை செய்த ஒரே தலம் என பரவலாக அறியப்படுகிறது. மூலவர் விஜயராகவப் பெருமாள், தமது தொடையில் ஜடாயுவை ஏந்திய ஸேவையில் கிழக்கு நோக்கி அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். தாயார் மரகதவல்லி, தனி சந்நிதியில் பச்சை மேனியுடன் அமைந்துள்ளாள்.

இக்கோயிலில் உள்ள ஜடாயு தீர்த்தம் மிகப் பிரமிக்கத்தக்கது. இதில் நீராடி, வறுத்த பச்சைப் பயிறை சந்நிதியில் கட்டி தூங்கும் வழிபாடு, புத்திர பாக்கியம் தரும் என்று நம்பப்படுகிறது. சீதையை ராவணன் கடத்தியபோது, ராமர் சந்தித்த ஜடாயுவுக்கு இங்குதான் மோட்சம் வழங்கப்பட்டது.

இயங்கும் கல் குதிரை வாகனம், சிற்ப கலைப்பாடலின் உச்சக்கட்டமே! இதை வடித்த சிற்பிக்காக, பெருமாள் ஆண்டுதோறும் வீதி புறப்பாடு செய்து மரியாதை செலுத்துகிறார்.

ராமானுஜரின் ஆசான் யாதவப்பிரகாசர் இங்கு வாழ்ந்தார். திருமங்கையாழ்வார் மங்களாசாசனம் செய்த புண்ணிய தலம் இது. குடும்ப பிரச்சனை, பித்ரு தோஷம், பாக்கிய வினாக்களுக்கு தீர்வாக விளங்கும் இந்த தலம், பக்தர்களுக்கு ஆனந்த அனுபவத்தை அளிக்கிறது.

Thirupputkuzhi Vijayaraghava Perumal Temple is the 57th of the 108 Divya Desams, known for its deep connection with Jatayu Moksha. The main deity, Vijayaraghava Perumal, faces east, holding Jatayu on his lap, a rare depiction. Goddess Maragathavalli graces devotees from a separate sanctum, adorned in emerald green form.

This sacred site marks the place where Lord Rama performed final rites (shraddha) for the vulture king Jatayu, granting him moksha. Hence, the Dwajasthambam and Bali Peetam are located outside the temple — a rare architectural style. The Jatayu Pushkarini in front is considered sacred, and rituals performed here are believed to remove Pitru Dosha and bless childless couples.

A unique feature is the stone horse vahanam, which has movable parts like tail, legs, and head – crafted so lifelike that only life is missing! Every year, during the Brahmotsavam, the Lord visits the sculptor’s street to honor his craftsmanship.
