108 திவ்ய தேசங்களில் 59-வது தலம் ஆன திருவள்ளூர் வீரராகவப் பெருமாள் கோயில், ஆரோக்கிய அனுகிரகத்திற்குப் புகழ்பெற்றது. இங்கு மூலவர் “எவ்வுட்கிடந்தான்“ (அல்லது வீரராகவப் பெருமாள்) சயன கோலத்தில் அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். இத்திருக்கோயிலில் சந்தன தைலத்தால் மட்டுமே திருமஞ்சனம் நடைபெறுவது சிறப்பம்சம். உற்சவர் வைத்திய வீரராகவர், தாயார் கனகவல்லி, தீர்த்தம் ஹிருதாபநாசினி, விமானம் விஜயகோடி விமானம் ஆகும்.

இந்த தலத்தில் திருமங்கையாழ்வார் மங்களாசாசனம் செய்துள்ளார். மேலும் திருமழிசை ஆழ்வார், வேதாந்த தேசிகரும் இத்தலத்தின் சிறப்புகளைப் பாடியுள்ளனர். பல்லவர் கட்டிய இக்கோயில் ஐந்தடுக்கு ராஜகோபுரத்துடன் 5000 ஆண்டுகள் பழமை வாய்ந்தது.

சாலிஹோத்ர முனிவர் ஒரு ஆண்டுத் தவம் இருந்து, இறைவனுக்கு நைவேத்யம் செய்தபோது, ஒரு மூதாட்டியராகவே திருமால் வந்து, உணவின் இருபங்கையும் பெற்றுக் கொண்டு, பின்னர் தனது சயன ரூபத்தில் காட்சி அளித்ததாகச் சொல்லப்படுகிறது. இதனால்தான் இத்தலத்திற்கு “எவ்வுள்“, பெருமாளுக்கு “எவ்வுட்கிடந்தான்” என்ற பெயர் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

ஹிருதாபநாசினி தீர்த்தம் கங்கையைவிட புனிதமானது என்று கூறப்படுகிறது. இங்கு பால், வெல்லம் தீர்த்தத்தில் விடுவது, உப்பு, மிளகு மண்டபத்தில் சமர்ப்பிப்பது வழக்கம். இது நோய்களை நீக்கும் திருத்தலம் என நம்பப்படுகிறது.

தை, சித்திரை பிரம்மோற்சவங்கள், வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசி, தை அமாவாசை, சனிக்கிழமைகள் ஆகிய தினங்களில் சிறப்பு வழிபாடுகள் நடைபெறுகின்றன. தாயார், பக்தர்களின் வேதனைகளைத் தழுவி ஆறுதல் தரும் தெய்விக சக்தியாக இருக்கிறார்.

Thiruvallur Veeraraghava Perumal Temple

Thiruvallur Veeraraghava Perumal Temple, the 59th Divya Desam among the 108 sacred Vaishnavite shrines, is renowned for its healing grace. Here, the presiding deity “Evvul Kidandha Perumal” (also called Veeraraghava Perumal) is seen in reclining posture (Sayanam) and is worshipped with sandalwood oil abhishekam alone, a unique ritual. The Utsavar is Vaidya Veeraraghavan, and Thayar is Kanakavalli. The sacred tank, Hruthapanasini, is believed to cure diseases and cleanse sins.

Saint Thirumangai Azhwar has sung Mangalasasanam here. Other revered saints like Thirumazhisai Azhwar and Vedanta Desikar have also praised this shrine. The Vimanam is Vijayakoti Vimanam and the temple is built in Pallava-era style, over 5000 years old, with a five-tier Rajagopuram.

Legend speaks of Sage Salihotra, who performed intense penance here. The Lord appeared to him as an old Brahmin, accepted his offerings, and finally revealed himself in divine form, granting boons. The temple gets the name “Evvul” from this incident.

The Hruthapanasini Theertham is considered more sacred than the Ganga. It is believed that bathing here and praying to Veeraraghava Perumal can cure chronic ailments, ensure marriage blessings, childbirth, and remove life obstacles. Offering milk and jaggery in the temple tank and pepper and salt in the mandapam is a common ritual.

Major festivals include Thai and Chithirai Brahmotsavams, Vaikunta Ekadasi, Thai Amavasai, and Saturdays, attracting thousands. The goddess here is known to soothe devotees’ pains, making this Divya Desam a divine healing destination.
