85-Thiruvanvandur Pambanayappan Temple

108 வைணவ திவ்ய தேசங்களில், கேரள மாநிலம் ஆலப்புழா மாவட்டத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள திருவண்வண்டூர் மகாவிஷ்ணு கோயில், 85-வது திவ்ய தேசமாக போற்றப்படுகிறது. இத்தலம் திருவமுண்டூர் என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது மற்றும் நம்மாழ்வாரால் மங்களாசாசனம் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இங்கு மூலவர்: பாம்பணையப்பன் (கமலநாதன்), தாயார்: கமலவல்லி நாச்சியார், தீர்த்தம்: பம்பை தீர்த்தம், விமானம்: வேதாலய விமானம்.

தல வரலாறு

ஒருமுறை பிரம்மதேவர் மற்றும் நாரதர் இடையே ஏற்பட்ட வாதத்தில் கோபமடைந்த பிரம்மா, நாரதரை சபித்தார். நாரதர் இத்தலத்தில் தவம் இருந்து, திருமாலிடம் ஞான வரம் பெற்றார். நன்றி கூறும் விதமாக, இங்கு நாரதர் ‘நாரதீய புராணம்’ என்ற நூலை அருளினார்.

கோயில் சிறப்புகள்

பம்பை நதியின் வடபுறம் அமைந்துள்ள இக்கோயிலில், சங்கு-சக்கரத்துடன் மேற்கு நோக்கி நின்ற மூலவர், வட்ட வடிவ கருவறையில் எழுந்தருள்கிறார். பூமியை தோண்டியபோது கிடைத்த பழமையான பெருமாள் விக்கிரகங்கள் புதிய சந்நிதிகளாகப் பிரதிஷ்டைக்கப்பட்டன. மேற்குப் புற வாயிலில், காளிங்கன் மீது கண்ணன் ஆடும் சிற்பம், இருபுறமும் தசாவதாரக் காட்சிகள் சிறப்பாக வடிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

நகுலன் இத்தலத்தை புதுப்பித்ததாகவும், மார்க்கண்டேயர் வழிபட்ட தலம் என்றும் கூறப்படுகிறது.

திருவிழாக்கள்

மாசி மாத அனுஷ நட்சத்திரத்தில் கொடியேற்றத்துடன் பத்து நாள் திருவிழா நடைபெறும். நவராத்திரி, வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசி போன்ற பெருவிழாக்களில் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பக்தர்கள் திரளும். வேண்டியதை பெற வேண்டிய தலம் எனப் போற்றப்படும் இக்கோயிலில், பக்தர்கள் பால் பாயாசம் நைவேத்யமாக சமர்ப்பித்து வழிபடுகின்றனர்.

Thiruvanvandur Mahavishnu Temple, located in Alappuzha district of Kerala, is glorified as the 85th Divya Desam among the 108 sacred Vaishnava shrines. Revered as Thiruvamundur or Thiruvanvandur, this temple was praised in the Divya Prabandham by Nammazhwar.

The main deity here is Pambanayappan (Kamalanathan), accompanied by Kamalavalli Nachiyar. The sacred water bodies are Pambai Theertham, and the Vimanam is called Vedalaya Vimanam.

Historical Significance

Once, a dispute arose between Lord Brahma and Sage Narada. Enraged, Brahma cursed Narada. To attain liberation and divine wisdom, Narada performed penance at this site. Pleased, Lord Vishnu granted him the knowledge, and as gratitude, Narada composed the ‘Naradeeya Purana’ – a text with 4000 verses praising the Lord and spiritual practices.

Temple Features

Situated north of River Pamba, the sanctum sanctorum is circular, with the Lord facing west, holding conch and discus. During excavations, ancient idols were found and new shrines were built within the temple. At the western entrance, there’s a sculpture of Krishna dancing on Kaliya, supported by two pillars etched with Dasavatara depictions.

Legend says Nakula renovated this temple during the Pandavas’ exile. Sage Markandeya also worshipped here.

Festivals

The Masi Anusham festival is celebrated for 10 days, with flag hoisting and grand processions. During Navaratri and Vaikuntha Ekadashi, thousands of devotees participate. Devotees often offer milk payasam (kheer) for blessings, as the Lord is believed to grant all wishes.
