87-Thiruvattar Adikesava Perumal

கன்னியாகுமரி மாவட்டத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள திருவட்டாறு ஆதிகேசவ பெருமாள் கோயில் என்பது 87-வது திவ்யதேசம் ஆகும். நம்மாழ்வார் மங்களாசாசனம் செய்துள்ள இத்தலத்தில், திருமால் 16,008 சாளக்கிராம கற்கள் கலவையால் உருவாகியுள்ளார்.

சிறப்பு வரலாறு:

நான்முகனின் யாகத்தில் தோன்றிய கேசன், கேசி எனும் அரக்கர்கள் பிரம்ம தேவா முனிவர்களை தொந்தரவு செய்தனர். திருமால் கேசனை அழித்து அவன் மீது சயனம் கொண்டார். கேசியின் மனைவி கங்கை, தாமிரபரணியை அழைத்ததும், பூதேவி நிலத்தை உயர்த்த, ஆறுகள் வட்டமாக ஓடத் தொடங்கின. இதனால் இத்தலம் வட்டாறு என பெயரிடப்பட்டது.

சிறப்பம்சங்கள்:

• 22 அடி நீள மூலவர், 3 நிலை வாயில்கள் மூலம் திருமேனி தரிசனம்.
• 12 கைகளில் 12 ருத்ராட்சம் – இன்று 12 சிவன் கோயில்கள்.
• மகா சிவராத்திரியில் பக்தர்கள் இந்த கோயில்களைக் கடந்து இறுதியாக ஆதிகேசவரை தரிசிக்கின்றனர்.
• சேரநாட்டு கட்டடக்கலை, ஆடவர்கள் சட்டை அணிய அனுமதி இல்லை.
• ஓணப்படிக்கல் மண்டபம், இசையில் மயங்கும் கிருஷ்ணன் சிலைகள், மன்மதன்-ரதி, இந்திரஜித் போன்றோர் சிற்பங்கள்.

திருவிழாக்கள்:

ஓணம், புரட்டாசி சனிக்கிழமை, ஐப்பசி பிரம்மோற்சவம், வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசி – சிறப்பான பூஜைகள், திருமஞ்சனம், புறப்பாடு. பெருமாள் வேண்டியதை தருவார் என நம்பிக்கை.

Thiruvattar Adikesava Perumal Temple, the 87th Divya Desam, is located in Kanyakumari district. Revered by Nammazhwar, the presiding deity Adikesava Perumal is in a unique reclining posture, formed using 16,008 Salagrama stones mixed with a paste called Kadusarkkara Yogam.

Unique Legend:

Once, from a yajna by Brahma emerged two demons, Kesan and Kesi, who troubled sages and Devas. Lord Vishnu slew Kesan and reclined over his body. In revenge, Kesi’s wife summoned rivers Ganga and Tamiraparani to drown Vishnu. Bhudevi raised the land, redirecting the rivers, which now encircle the shrine in a circular pattern – thus the name Vattaru. The Lord is known as Kesava Perumal.

Architectural Marvels:

• 22 feet long deity in a sanctum with three-tiered doorways offering darshan to face, hands, and feet.
• Rudrakshas on Kesan’s 12 hands turned into 12 Shiva temples surrounding the shrine.
• On Maha Shivaratri, devotees visit all 12 temples and end at Adikesava Perumal Temple.
• Temple follows Chera-style architecture, where men must remove shirts to enter.
• Intricately carved sculptures and monolithic hall with depictions of Krishna, Indrajit, Lakshmana, and more.

Festivals:

Onam, Purattasi Saturdays, Aippasi Brahmotsavam, and Vaikunta Ekadasi are celebrated grandly. The sun rays touch the Lord during Purattasi and Panguni, six days a year.

Belief:

Worshipping here is said to grant moksha (liberation from rebirth).
