35-Thirumanikkoodam Thirunangur

திருமணிக்கூடம் வரதராஜப் பெருமாள் கோயில் திருநாங்கூரில் இருந்து கிழக்கே 4 மைல் தொலைவில் அமைந்து, 35-வது திவ்ய தேசமாகப் போற்றப்படுகிறது. மணிக்கூடம் போன்ற தங்கத்தோன்றும் கோயில் அமைப்பால், இத்தலம் “திருமணிக்கூடம்” என அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. திருமங்கையாழ்வார் 10 பாசுரங்களில் இத்தலத்தைக் கீர்த்தித்துள்ளார்.

சந்திரனின் சாப விமோசனக் கதை இத்தல சிறப்பில் ஒன்று. தக்கனின் சாபத்தால் ஒளி இழந்த சந்திரன், பல தலங்களைச் சுற்றிய பின், திருமணிக்கூடத்தில் உள்ள பிரம்ம தீர்த்தத்தில் நீராடி, பெருமாளை வழிபட்டார். பெருமாள் வரதராஜராக காட்சி அளித்து, சந்திரனுக்கு சாப விமோசனம் செய்தார்.

கருடாழ்வார், சந்திரனுக்குக் கிடைத்த தரிசனம் தனக்கும் வேண்டி வேண்டினார். பெருமாள் கருடாழ்வாருக்கும் காட்சி அளித்து, அருள் செய்தார்.

கனக விமானத்தின் கீழ், தாமரை பீடத்தில் நின்ற கோலத்தில் பெருமாள், அபய ஹஸ்தம், சங்கு, சக்கரம் உடைய அணிவகுப்பில் காட்சி தருகிறார். அருகில் ஸ்ரீதேவி, பூமாதேவி, உற்சவர் மூர்த்திகள் உள்ளனர். நம்மாழ்வார் சந்நிதி அர்த்த மண்டப வடக்கில் உள்ளது.

வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசி மற்றும் தை மாத கருட சேவை பெருமையாகக் கொண்டாடப்படும். பெண்கள் தொடர்பான சாபங்கள், திருமண தடை, வாழ்க்கை தளர்ச்சி போன்ற பிரச்சனைகளுக்கு தீர்வு தரும் தலம் என்ற நம்பிக்கையுடன் பக்தர்கள் தரிசிக்கின்றனர்.

Thirumanikkoodam Varadharaja Perumal Temple, celebrated as the 35th Divya Desam, is uniquely known by the title “Ambalam”. It is located 4 miles east of Thirunangur.

This sacred site, fashioned in a Manikkoodam-style structure, was consecrated by Thirumangai Azhwar through 10 Pasurams.

Temple Legend:
According to myth, King Takkan married all his 27 daughters. However, his affection for Rohini exceeded the rest, provoking dissent. In response, Takkan cursed that Chandra’s beauty and brilliance would fade daily. Consequently, the Moon began to wane. To lift this curse, Chandra embarked on a pilgrimage—travelling via Srirangam, Thiruindalur, and Thalaichangadu—until finally arriving at the temple. There, after bathing in the Brahma Theertham, Chandra worshipped Lord Varadharaja, who appeared as the Varadharaja (the bestower of Varadham), bringing relief from his curse.

When Chandra sought divine darshan, the revered Karudaazhwar also granted his vision, adding to the temple’s sanctity.

Temple Architecture and Festivals:
Inside the temple, visitors witness the Palabeeṭam, Karudaazhwar Sanctum, Mahamandapam, and Artamandapam. Under the Kanaka Vimanam, the main deity is depicted holding Sangu, Chakra, and symbolic mudras, with Sri Devi and Bhooma Devi enshrined at the sides. Celebrations such as Vaikunta Ekadasi and Thai month Garuda Sevai feature special rituals, believed to alleviate women’s afflictions, safeguard girl children, and bless marital prospects.
