108 திவ்யதேசங்களில் 49-வது தலமாகக் கருதப்படும் திருநிலாத் திங்கள் துண்டம், பெரிய காஞ்சிபுரத்தில் ஏகாம்பரேஸ்வரர் கோயிலின் உட்பிரகாரத்தில் அமைந்துள்ளது. இத்தலத்தை திருமங்கையாழ்வார் மங்களாசாசனம் செய்துள்ளார்.

தவமிருந்த பார்வதிக்கு உதவிய தலம் இது. திருமால், கடல் கடையும் போதுமான விஷ வெப்பத்தால் கருந்த தோல் பெற்றுப் சிவனை வழிபட்டு குளிர்ச்சி பெற்ற இடம் இதுவே. சந்திர கிரணங்கள் விழும் இடத்தில் தாபம் நீங்கியது, எனவே நிலாத் திங்கள் துண்டம் என்று பெயர் பெற்றார்.
இது சைவம்-வைணவம் ஒரே தலத்தில் இணையும் அபூர்வத் திருத்தலம். பார்வதி தவம் செய்த மாமரத்தை சிவன் எரித்தபோது, பெருமாள் அதை மீண்டும் தழைக்கச் செய்தார். பார்வதியும் பெருமாளை வணங்கி, இத்தலத்தில் அவர் அர்ச்சாவதார ரூபத்தில் நிலைத்து நிறைய வேண்டும் என வேண்டியது போல், பெருமாள் இங்கு நிலாத் துண்டப் பெருமாளாக எழுந்தருளியுள்ளார்.

The 49th Divya Desam in the 108 Vaishnavite shrines is Thiru Nilathingal Thundam, located within the inner prakaram of Ekambareswarar Temple, Kanchipuram. This temple was glorified by Thirumangai Azhwar.

This sacred place marks the divine grace shown to Parvati during her penance. When Lord Vishnu turned dark due to the poison from the churning of the ocean, He prayed to Lord Shiva under a moonlit spot, and gained back his coolness and peace. Hence, He is known here as Nilathingal Thunda Perumal (one bathed in moonlight).
It is one of the rare shrines where Shaivism and Vaishnavism unite. Vishnu revived the tree burnt by Shiva to test Parvati, thus supporting her penance. Pleased, she requested Him to reside here eternally.
