89-Thirukkurungudi Azhagiya Nambi

திருக்குறுங்குடி அழகிய நம்பிராயர் கோயில், திருநெல்வேலி மாவட்டத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள 108 திவ்ய தேசங்களில் 89-வது திவ்ய தேசம் ஆகும். இங்கு மற்ற கோயில்களைப் போலல்லாமல் துவஜஸ்தம்பம் விலகி இருப்பது ஒரு மிகச் சிறப்பான அம்சம். இந்த தலத்தை திருமழிசை ஆழ்வார், நம்மாழ்வார், பெரியாழ்வார், திருமங்கையாழ்வார் மங்களாசாசனம் செய்துள்ளனர்.

தல வரலாறு:

ஒரு சமயம் இரண்யாட்சன் பூமியை அபகரிக்க முயன்றபோது, திருமால் வராக அவதாரம் எடுத்து மீட்டார். பின் பூமாதேவி, பூமியில் உள்ள ஜீவராசிகள் எவ்வாறு அவரை அடையலாம் எனக் கேட்டபோது, “இசையின் வழியே இறைவனை அடையலாம்” என பதிலளித்தார்.

இங்கு பிறந்த நம்பாடுவான், கைசிகப் பண்ணில் பாடி ஆண்டுதோறும் கார்த்திகை வளர்பிறை ஏகாதசியன்று விரதம் இருப்பது வழக்கம். ஒரு முறை வழியில் பிரம்ம ராட்சசன் அவரைத் தின்றுவிடக் கேட்க, விரதம் முடிந்தபின் தன்னைத் தருவதாக வாக்களிக்கிறார். தனது உண்மையான பக்தியின் பலத்தில் பாதியை ராட்சசனுக்குத் தருகிறார். இச்சம்பவத்தில், துவஜஸ்தம்பம் விலகி, நம்பாடுவான் பெருமாளை தரிசிக்கச் செய்கிறார்.

சிறப்பம்சங்கள்:

• இக்கோயிலில் சிவன் மற்றும் பைரவர் சந்நிதிகள் உள்ளன
• பெருமாள் நின்ற, அமர்ந்த, நடந்த, கிடந்த, இருந்த என ஐந்து நிலைகளில் அருள்பாலிக்கிறார்
• இத்தலம் ‘தென் திருப்பதி’ என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது
• வாமன மற்றும் வராக அவதாரங்களுடன் தொடர்புடையது
• இங்கு சிலம்பாறு தீர்த்தம் உருவானதாக புராணங்கள் கூறுகின்றன

திருவிழாக்கள்:

சித்திரை வசந்தோற்சவம், வைகாசி ஜேஷ்டாபிஷேகம், ஆவணி பவித்ர உற்சவம், புரட்டாசி நவராத்திரி, ஐப்பசி ஊஞ்சல், தை தெப்ப உற்சவம், பங்குனி பிரம்மோற்சவம் உள்ளிட்ட பெரும் விழாக்கள் நடைபெறுகின்றன. மோட்சம் வேண்டி பலரும் இங்கு பிரார்த்தனை செய்கிறார்கள்.

Thirukkurungudi Azhagiya Nambi Temple in Tirunelveli district is the 89th Divya Desam among the 108 sacred Vaishnavite shrines. A unique feature here is the flagpost (Dwajasthambam) shifted aside, unlike other temples. This divine site has been glorified through the Mangalasasanam of Thirumazhisai Azhwar, Nammazhwar, Periyazhwar, and Thirumangai Azhwar.

Temple Legend:

Once, demon Hiranyaksha tried to steal the earth, prompting Lord Vishnu to incarnate as Varaha (boar form) to rescue it. Bhoomidevi then asked Varaha Moorthy how beings on earth could attain salvation, and He replied, “Through devotion expressed in music.”

The temple is closely linked to Nampaduvan, a devout from the Panar community, who worshipped the Lord with Kaisika Raga songs. On a Kaisika Ekadasi night, he encountered a Brahma Rakshasa, who wanted to devour him. Nampaduvan promised to return after completing his fast and kept his word. Moved by his sincerity, the Lord revealed Himself by shifting the flagpost, granting darshan to Nampaduvan.

Upon returning, the demon sought liberation through the merit of Nampaduvan’s devotion, which was granted. This story is part of the Kaisika Puranam, narrated by Varaha Murthi to His consort.
